BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Born in France in 1951. Currently living and working in England.
Educated in France and England:
- Licence-ès-Lettres in English (1974) and Maîtrise-ès-Lettres in English and American literature (1976) from the University of Lyon
- MA in French literature (1978) and PhD (1985) from the University of London (Birkbeck College).
Teaching posts in further and higher education until 1988. And since 1988: author, independent scholar, and translator specializing in the arts and all publications with an emphasis on style and presentation.
The common thread between these activities is the written word:
- The work of French writer Georges Perec was the subject of my doctoral thesis and lead to numerous publications about French literature.
- Help Yourself to French Grammar (written in collaboration with Thalia Marriott) stemmed from my experience as a language teacher. The book underwent several editions and spawned a series of language textbooks.
- Collections of articles were often the result of international conferences which I organized or co-organised.
- My interest in music, photography and the visual arts have also given rise to various translation and writing projects.
