One of 18 artist’s books made as part of AMBruno’s Finale project and selected by Robert Bolick
“The eye travels along the paths cut out for it in the work” (Paul Klee)
The title of the book is meant to be ambiguous, refering both to the ending of a process (a book, life…) and the final stages of a game.
A hole has been cut out of each page of text. The very last page, the one glimpsed through the holes cut out of all the previous pages, is blank. This marks the finale of the book: it is an empty space, which signifies both everything… and nothing.
Before closing the book, the reader will have one last game to play and maybe a surprise.
The text consists of multiple narratives anticipating the ending, and the plot is adapted from La Vie mode d’emploi [Life A user’s Manual] by Georges Perec.
24 pages, plus circular cut-out pieces in envelope, handmade and digitally printed. Cover illustration by Claudia Shneider. Variable edition of 17. Buy
